The UK ban of single use plastic cutlery is imminent, coming into effect in October 2023!
When this happens, businesses will need an alternative solution that enables customers a healthy choice when purchasing food whilst ‘on the go’! The K8 Sustainable Cutlery Case is the Solution!
Research by the Rethink Plastic Alliance last year showed scaling up reusable food & beverage containers in the foodservice & hospitality sector by 50%, by 2030, could save 2.6 mtCO2e and £9.2bn (Foodservice Footprint November 2022)
England uses 1.1 Billion single use plates and 4.25 billion items of single use cutlery each year (mostly plastic) - only 10% are recycled (DEFRA)
Currently the UK sends over 60% of its waste plastics abroad (Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee)
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee are recommending that the Government ban the export of plastic waste by the end of 2027. To make this ban achievable the UK needs to significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste it produces and move away from our “use and dispose” linear economy to a more circular economy by reusing and recycling plastic components.
‘The benefits of plastic mean that it is likely to remain part of society. To preserve these benefits, but limit their environmental and other impacts, the UK Government has committed, along with the devolved governments, to work towards a more circular
economy in which the value of waste resources are recaptured, at their highest possible
level and put back into the economy to create new products.’ Convention on Plastic Pollution
