The K8 Sustainable Cutlery Case is the solution to eliminating single use disposable cutlery.

This case enables people to carry their eating implements with them safely, protecting their bags and pockets from food spoils or damage.

The case in made from Polypropylene (PP), which is fully dishwasher proof, enabling it to be reused time and time again. This is the same material that milk containers are made of, therefore, if or when it gets to the end of its useful life, it is 100% recyclable.

As standard it comes with a Spork, a clever combination of a spoon and fork, with a serrated edge on the side of the fork for ease of cutting. 

Plastic is used for billions of different applications and has become too widely used to be eliminated in manufacturing.

Plastic, when managed correctly is a very sustainable product but it is all about Reuse rather than, disposal.  The K8 Case has the advantage of enabling people to reuse their cutlery and as with other containers purchased daily, such as coca cola bottles and milk containers they are 100% recyclable.

We considered other materials for the case such as stainless steel, wood and poly carbonate amongst others. Those that were robust enough to provide a stainable reusable solution, would not be cost effect for the marketplace.

There are bamboo and wooden alternatives, however bamboo is not as sustainable as we are led to believe.  It is naturally grown in tropical climates, therefore has to be transported across the world. In contrast the K8 Sustainable Cutlery Case is manufactured in the UK.

Another problem with bamboo cutlery is that it must be disposed of properly in order to positively impact the environment. Many biodegradable products are placed in the general waste. These products do not biodegrade and contribute to the creation of more landfill.

The reality of how bamboo products are manufactured today is that many of them are assembled with various types of adhesives or treated with water-proofing sealants and other chemicals.  (Bioplastics News February 13 2020).  This is not conducive the biodegradable characteristics of the product.

Wooden cutlery is also flimsy and does not enhance the eating experience.

The cases are made using an injection moulding process of raw PP.  They are manufactured in a factory in Sussex, therefore we do not rely on international transportation, minimising its carbon footprint.

There is zero wastage in the manufacturing process as any connectors or defective items are shredded and reprocessed.

We envisage that Cutlery cases will become the partner to reusable water bottles and ‘Keep Cups’ with people automatically picking them up before leaving the house.

Students, staff, people ‘On the go’ who want a healthy option for their lunch would all benefit from a K8 Sustainable Cutlery Case.

The price of single use cutlery will increase, adding to the overall cost of a meal.  If we can encourage people to change their behaviour, by carrying their eating implements with them, there will be multiple gains from empowering your customers to help the environment and reduce costs for you business.  It also helps people to make healthy choices such as salads and yoghurts as opposed to grabbing hand held food such as sandwiches.

We are aiming at the commercial catering industry where we can change behaviour. Our business strategy is to manufacture the cases in high volumes to make them cost effective for the mass market. However, never say never!

The pricing structure is determined by economies of scale, therefore the bigger the order the lower the price!  The cost of small quantities is also influenced by the complexity of the artwork for branding.
